With so many varied designs of sliding door available, it can be difficult to decide on the type that is most suited to your property.
To help you with this, we have created the following guide; providing information about the main types of sliding door available.
Types of sliding door
Sliding into a fitted space in the adjacent wall when open, Pocket doors are commonly implemented when there is no room for a hinged door to function, providing additional space in a room where otherwise it would be lost. Usually made out of timber the door’s rollers are often located on an overhead track, although floor racks can be added for extra stability.
Ideal for both traditional or modern homes Pocket doors can offer an efficient space saving solution when a standard hinged door cannot be used.

Arcadia doors
Often referred to as patio doors, Arcadia doors are commonly used to connect the interior of a property with the garden area outside. Fixed securely onto rollers that allow the door to slide open and closed in parallel with an adjoining fixed glass panel of a similar shape, the view outside remains unbroken during operation.
Arcadia doors are frequently used on modern homes, adding to the overall appearance of a property’s facade.
Bypass doors
Bypass doors function in a very similar way to Arcadia doors but are usually composed out of timber and used for wardrobes or kitchen cupboards. Unlike Arcadia doors both Bypass doors can slide past one another when open, whilst blocking the opening or entrance when shut. Bypass doors are always positioned on tracks at the bottom and top of the door frame.
